Adobe CS5 Suite Preview

by David Alexander in Off Topic

Adobe (formally Macromedia) have been innovators in creative and digital media design and development since as long as I can remember and with Adobe CS5 (code named White Rabbit) launching later today could they be set to take another great leap for creative mankind? The first look actually launched at 8am PDT / 11am EDT / 4pm BST which to those of us in the United Kingdom is 3pm. Adobe are calling this a launch but in real terms its just the full public unveiling of their full creative suit version CS5 and an in depth look at what is on offer, you will not be able to purchase Adobe’s latest suit until later on this year. An exact date hasn’t been specified however people have stated between September and October would line up 2 years after CS4 was released, optimists believe it will be an 18 month cycle scheduling it for mid summer.

Why do Adobe do this? my instant reaction is that this suit and it’s individual products aren’t cheap and therefore people really want to know what they are buying or upgrading to before forking out all that hard earned cash. For many the “if its not broke, don’t fix it” routine comes into mind and Adobe obviously intend to prove a point given all the rumoured features set for CS5.

The online preview will feature four main keynote speakers. Terry White on design, Greg Rewis on Web, Jason Levine on Video, and last but not least Jullieanne Kost on Photography who will collectively cover all of the main new features available in CS5.

For those of you unfamiliar Adobe Creative Suite 5 (Adobe CS5) is a collection of graphic , video, and web development applications. The full creative suite consists of the following applications; Photoshop CS5, Acrobat, InDesign CS5, Illustrator CS5, Flash CS5, that are based on various formats, file types and technologies (e.g., PostScript, PDF, Flash). To go on other programs such as Dreamweaver, Contribute, Bridge, Air, Premiere and After Effects may be included in the master collection.

What to expect? Well with it being a new decade and all, with the digital media industry and web economics growing more and more I think it goes without saying that Adobe have a lot planned for the near future. Some that are more directed at myself such as the new enhancements to Photoshop’s Content Aware Feature (video below) which will be of use to designers, photographers and pretty much any creative type or the Puppet Warp feature also below as a video example.

Over the next few days many more details will be revealed and we shall try and summarise the list of what’s new in each application when available. To find out more and enjoy the features preview in full click the image below.

If your a student you can expect to get up to 80% off some of the Adobe Creative Suite Applications which is a great incentive to purchase these tools whilst still within an educational institute, sometimes even online colleges and courses will be considered.
