Want to politely invite your web visitors to upgrade their browser to an alternative or more up to date version of IE? A lot of users still to their own peril use IE6. There is a lot of discussion in the web community and here at Pixelloop that forcing users to upgrade, or not supporting their browser version at all is web snobbery, I am not sure if I really subscribe to that way of thinking but agree a polite request which can be customized is the best way to go.
I chose the wordpress plugin Gecka IE Warning, mainly because it was the most recently updated, and was fully tested with the latest version of wordpress (on publishing this is 3.1).
The plugin is easy to install and will show the settings to show this message to IE6 and 7 users if necessary. You can also set it to show once a day, once per session etc, so its not going to be an annoyance to your neglectful users. 🙂 Win Win I say.
The custom message shown to IE6 users viewing your WordPress website can be controlled by going to plugins in your dashboard, locating the Gecka plugin and clicking Edit, then look through the files for the default message and edit to suit your needs.
